Three Grand Pianos

Galaxy III Pianos gathers three distinct grand pianos into one collection. The Vienna Grand is a sampled Bösendorfer Imperial 290, a 9’6” concert grand with an extended 97-key range, noted for its powerful low end and recorded at Hansahaus Studios. The 1929 German Baby Grand is based on a Blüthner Model 150, offering a warm, intimate vintage character. The Vintage D captures a 1920 Steinway D from Bauer Studios, an instrument used in many legendary recordings.

Each piano was sampled in 24-bit with thousands of samples, featuring multiple velocity zones. The collection includes chromatic and multi-velocity resonance and release samples, real una corda samples, and real overtones. It also captures pedal, damper, hammer, and string noises at multiple velocities, allowing for expressive performance detail.

Playability and Controls

The interface is designed for direct access, providing one-knob control over tone colour and dynamics, along with an intelligent EQ for adjusting warmth, punch, and brilliance. An adjustable velocity editor helps tailor response to your playing style. The compressor is specifically designed for pop piano sounds, while the Pad Machine creates layered textures.

True half pedaling and repedaling work when using a continuous sustain pedal, and pedal, damper, and string noises are dynamically playable. Sostenuto is also supported. A convolution reverb offers many room, hall, and ambience types, and stereo width and position are adjustable. The Warp Engine allows for sound design beyond conventional piano sounds.

Sound Design and Effects

Beyond realistic piano reproduction, Galaxy III Pianos includes tools for creative sound shaping. The Warp Engine transforms the piano into experimental textures, while the Pad Machine generates evolving pads. The convolution reverb can place the instrument in various acoustic spaces, from small rooms to large concert halls.

The intelligent EQ provides quick tonal adjustments, and the compressor adds a polished, contemporary feel for pop productions. With adjustable stereo width and position, you can fit the piano into a mix precisely. These features make the collection suitable not only for classical and jazz but also for pop, rock, and electronic music production.

Workflow and Compatibility

Galaxy III Pianos runs on Native Instruments’ Kontakt engine and includes a Kontakt Player license, so it works without a full version of Kontakt. The latest release adds NKS compatibility, enabling integration with Komplete Kontrol hardware. Lossless sample compression reduces disk usage from 30GB to 18GB for the German Baby Grand, and the collection is compatible with Kontakt (Player) 5.8.1 or newer.

The direct access interface streamlines navigation, making it easy to adjust key parameters. The collection includes over 6,000 samples total, with the Vienna Grand and Vintage D each offering over 2,000 samples. This setup is designed for both studio work and live performance, providing a comprehensive piano toolkit in one package.
