Core Instruments and Sound Character

Chris Hein Solo Violin EXtended bundles four solo violin instruments, each with a unique tonal identity. The Modern Violin offers a clear, precise hifi sound with wide dynamics, while the Italian Violin presents a warm, rich timbre from an antique Pollastri instrument. Two additional EX instruments, the French Violin and Original 1826, provide further character options.

All instruments were recorded close-miked in a dry environment to ensure maximum flexibility in mixing and reverb. This dry source allows the twin impulse-response convolution engines for instrument body and room to simulate environments from intimate spaces to large halls, making the library easy to blend with other sample libraries or live recordings.

Articulations and Playability

The library is built on a comprehensive sample set, with the full instruments including up to 38 articulations per patch and eight dynamic layers. Phase alignment ensures seamless dynamic transitions, while the Note Head Designer offers 102 attack shapes, allowing precise matching of note attacks and endings.

True legato is available in up to four dynamic layers for both short and long notes, with realistic transitions. The interface includes pre-programmed keyswitch presets for immediate playability without deep editing. Additional features like Dynamic Modes, Key-Vibrato, and Hot-Keys enhance live expressive control.

Extended Techniques and Sound Design

Beyond standard articulations, the library includes special effects such as flautando, flageolets, and ponticello, expanding the violin’s pitch range and enabling unusual timbres. These effects allow composers to craft clusters, atmospheres, and surreal sound worlds.

A tenfold DSP effects rack is integrated for further sound shaping. The Ensemble Maker can transform the solo instrument into an ensemble using all articulations, while provided multis offer pre-set stereo imaging and detuning for immediate ensemble effects. This makes the library valuable for film scoring, game audio, and experimental music.

Workflow Flexibility and System Use

The instrument adopts a modular approach: a clean start configuration loads a sustain patch with minimal memory, and additional articulations can be added as needed. This allows composers on compact or mobile systems to work efficiently without compromising access to the full articulation set.

The interface supports both basic keyswitch playing and deep customization using articulation presets and configuration choices. This flexibility serves users from beginners to advanced composers who need detailed control over their workflow. The library requires Kontakt Player 5.6.8 or newer.
