XO Expansion: Dubstep — Free Download

Purpose

XO Expansion: Dubstep provides producers with drum-focused material for extreme electronic genres. It contains a curated collection of 236 one-shot samples covering punchy kicks, hard snares, layered claps, precise hi-hats, and percussion with UK garage-inspired swing. These sounds are tailored for half-time grooves common in dubstep, riddim, brostep, and drumstep.

The expansion includes 75 fully editable presets within the XO sequencer. Each preset is a complete beat sequence that reveals the arrangement of every sound. This allows you to see how each element is placed and programmed, giving you a direct look at the rhythmic patterns and sound selection that define the genre.

Key capabilities

All 75 presets are fully editable, meaning you can change any drum sound, adjust timing, velocity, and effect sends directly in XO. The 236 handcrafted samples are genre-specific, selected to deliver deep sub-bass impact, sharp transients, and high pressure. The XO engine allows for infinite variations, so you can generate new beat ideas from the same source material.

Each sample is a one-shot, designed for precise triggering within the sequencer. The presets are mix-ready, so you can use them as-is or customize every aspect. The expansion is structured to break down the anatomy of each beat, making it an educational tool for understanding what makes dubstep rhythms effective.

Workflow

For production, load a preset into XO and immediately audition it. Use it in your track as a drum foundation. To customize, swap individual samples from your library or the included one-shots to match your sound. Edit the sequence by moving hits, adjusting velocity, or changing swing to fit your groove.

You can also build beats from scratch by loading the individual samples into the XO pads. The sequence view lets you see how the kick, snare, and hats interact. To go further, apply XO’s effects or export each drum stem to your DAW for mixing. This expansion is ideal for producers wanting to learn dubstep drum patterns by deconstructing them.

Practical applications

Use these sounds and presets in dubstep, riddim, brostep, and drumstep tracks, as well as in other bass-heavy electronic styles. The hard-hitting kicks and snares are perfect for intense drops, while the layered claps and hats add rhythmic drive. The swinging UKG-style elements can inject a different feel into halftime rhythms.

You can also use the presets as starting points for remixes or to quickly generate inspiration. Because they are editable, you can create unique drum patterns that reflect your own style rather than using generic loops. The expansion works within XO’s ecosystem, so you can seamlessly integrate it with your existing drum sample collection.
