Authentic Reverb Modeling

Q82 recreates the legendary resonance reverb of classic studio hardware, using advanced machine learning to model not only the static sound but also the dynamic, evolving behavior of the original unit. By analyzing a vast set of data points, it captures the quirks and imperfections that define vintage character.

The plugin offers two vintage algorithms: one representing a pristine factory-spec German unit, and another modeled after a characterful, time-worn US unit with unstable components. A Temperature Control knob let you morph between cold startup and warm, long-running hardware tones, bringing a sense of gear aging. This dynamic approach goes far beyond static emulations, providing a living, evolving sound.

Dual-Engine Control

The dual-engine design combines two reverb systems, each with four outputs, giving you real-time control over stereo width and front-to-back depth. This lets you sculpt the reverb’s placement in the mix, pushing sounds back or drawing them forward without excessive wetness. The engines work in harmony, allowing you to blend their characteristics to fit the track perfectly.

Tuning the engines is intuitive—you can adjust the balance between the two systems and set how wide or deep the reverb appears. This goes beyond a simple wet/dry mix, offering a creative tool for shaping the spatial illusion. The result is a reverb that sits naturally in a mix, with a sense of dimension and clarity that helps instruments retain their own space.

Natural Frequency and Room Control

Q82 uses a unique resonator-based approach to simulate how sound travels through air, instead of relying solely on time-based reflections. This produces a more integrated and enveloping reverb. You can choose from seven room sizes, from small to very large, to tailor the tail from subtle echoes to massive halls. An adjustable first reflection further shapes the initial response.

The Enhance mode adds a focused early-reflection layer, creating the illusion of a space with minimal reverb, adding three-dimensionality without muddiness. This helps place sounds in a room without long tails, keeping mixes clean. Bandwidth control lets you shape the frequency response from 4kHz to 16kHz, emulating the original hardware’s natural roll-off or extending it for brighter sound.

Modulation and Workflow

A hand-tuned 8-voice Advanced Chorus Ensemble (ACE) adds layers of modulation, creating rich texture and depth that feel like part of the space itself, not an effect on top. Each voice is embedded in the algorithm, producing a natural, musical movement. This is ideal for adding complexity to pad sounds or creating a wider stereo image.

The plugin’s workflow is straightforward: select your algorithm (German or US), set the room size, adjust bandwidth and first reflection, then use the dual-engine controls to place the reverb in the mix. Modulation and Enhance can be added as needed. This makes Q82 suitable for a wide range of audio work, from subtle ambience to dramatic sound design, with immediate results.

Key features

  • Machine-learned modeling of dynamic vintage hardware behavior
  • Dual-engine design with four outputs per engine for width and depth control
  • Two vintage algorithms: pristine and characterful, with temperature control
  • Hand-tuned 8-voice modulation for rich, natural texture
  • Seven room sizes and adjustable first reflection
  • Frequency bandwidth control from 4kHz to 16kHz
  • Enhance mode for adding dimensionality without muddiness

Best for

Best for music producers and sound engineers seeking a natural, characterful reverb that adds dimension and depth without washing out a mix. Particularly useful for acoustic instruments, vocals, and ambient soundscapes where precision placement and texture are critical. Also suits sound designers needing evolving, vintage-style spaces.
