ODC 2800 — Free Download
ODC 2800 is a polyphonic virtual instrument inspired by the classic ARP Odyssey, recreating all three hardware revisions with expanded synthesis, modulation, effects, and a new interface. It offers multiple voice modes, three oscillators, advanced filters, and extensive presets for vintage and modern music production.

Purpose and Core Heritage
ODC 2800, developed by Cherry Audio with DSP by Mark Barton, is a virtual instrument that celebrates the centennial of Alan R. Pearlman, founder of ARP Instruments. It meticulously models the sound and behavior of the classic ARP Odyssey duophonic synthesizer, covering all three hardware versions produced between 1972 and 1978.
The instrument faithfully reproduces the sonic character of the original analog circuits, offering a authentic vintage sound that appeals to synthesizer enthusiasts and producers seeking classic timbres. The interface includes matching panel designs for each model, allowing users to switch or lock the visual style.
Sound Engine and Synthesis
The sound engine is built around three complete VCOs with sawtooth and square/pulse waveforms, each with quantizable frequency control and extended sync routing. Cross-modulation is possible through assignable FM menus, and each VCO features three frequency modulators, including an assignable modulator with 35 source options.
The filter section emulates three distinct circuit designs: the 4023 (2-pole), 4035 (4-pole ladder), and 4075 (4-pole cascade), each offering lowpass, bandpass, and highpass responses. Gain compensation prevents bass loss at high resonance, and a separate highpass filter is included. The mixer includes individually assignable modulation for VCF and VCA with 35 sources, and a Sample/Hold Mixer adds further modulation possibilities.
Modulation and Expressive Controls
ODC 2800 expands on the original duophonic architecture with selectable modes: Monophonic, Mono Legato, Duophonic, and Polyphonic, with voice counts ranging from one to sixteen and a unison mode. This makes the instrument far more flexible than the hardware, which was limited to two-note paraphony. The synth supports velocity, channel aftertouch, and polyphonic aftertouch, with three assignable control destinations out of 24 possible targets.
Portamento settings include adjustable per-oscillator delays and a CS-80-like smart portamento for more musical glide behavior. A syncable dynamic arpeggiator adds Swing, Chance, and Feel to create humanized patterns, with regular, order, or random play modes. The proportional pitch control (PPC) allows customizable pitch bend ranges, and the drift controls emulate component tolerances, adding organic instability to VCO, VCF, and envelope behavior.
Effects, Presets, and Integration
The integrated effects strip provides five studio-quality pedal-style effects: Distortion/EQ, Dual Phaser, Flanger/Chorus, three Delay types, and five Reverb types. Each effect includes global on/off, solo, bipolar modulator amount, and dry/wet controls, with a global effects switch, level, and stereo expand. A syncable effects modulator (FX LFO) with six waveforms adds dynamic modulation to the effects chain.
Over 330 professional presets span 13 categories, covering a wide range of sounds for music production. The plugin supports complete MIDI control and DAW automation, with easy MIDI learn and mapping, plus user-adjustable oversampling. Standalone and plug-in versions are included, with highly optimized coding for low CPU usage. The Focus zoom feature and standard UI resize improve usability, and documentation is accessible online or as a PDF.
