Punch - BD — Free Download
Punch-BD is a bass drum synthesizer and sample player from Rob Papen, derived from the Punch virtual drum synth, designed for crafting fat bass drums and stacking up to six pads in various modes.

Purpose and Design
Punch-BD focuses exclusively on bass drum production, adapting the BD module from Rob Papen’s Punch virtual drum synth into a standalone tool. Its primary goal is helping producers create powerful, speaker-busting kick drums for contemporary music genres like Electronic Dance, Hip Hop, and Soundtrack work.
You can stack up to six bass drum pads simultaneously. Beyond simple stacking, Punch-BD offers creative flexibility through multiple play modes. These allow you to arrange the pads across the keyboard, play them in sequential order, or respond to tuned keyboard notes.
Synthesis and Sound Shaping
Each of the six pads can operate in either drum synthesis mode or as a sample player, offering four different synthesis models. For sample use, there is a dual sample slot per pad, with independent amp and pitch envelopes, plus a filter and filter envelope.
Sound shaping continues with an easy controls section for quick tweaks, a distortion module with twenty different models, and a three-band graphic EQ with frequency, bandwidth, and gain controls on every pad. Additionally, each pad includes a tune bypass button to avoid keyboard tuning response in tuned modes, and an easy bypass to ignore the EasyPage settings, giving you precise control over how each drum behaves.
Modulation and Effects
Punch-BD includes a robust modulation system with two envelopes, two LFOs, and eight modulation slots. This allows extensive routing of modulation sources to control a wide range of parameters, enabling dynamic and evolving bass drum sounds. The mixer screen provides a full overview of volume, panning, FX mix, and panning for all pads, simplifying the process of blending your drum stack.
The effects section is comprehensive, featuring four FX units with 32 different effect types each, including delays, reverbs, chorus, flanger, phaser, distortion, bit crusher, amp simulator, filters, compressors, and more. FX can be routed in five different paths, and in the multi-channel version, they output to separate channels.
Workflow and Management
Punch-BD’s workflow is designed for efficiency in the studio. The EasyPage provides sliders for altering main controls on the fly, and all parameters are available for MIDI-latching with your MIDI controller, making live tweaking simple. The drum preview pad lets you audition and select each drum, while solo and mute functions help you isolate elements in your mix.
A right mouse menu offers additional command functions for each pad. The manager screen displays all banks and presets, allowing you to load, save, copy, and paste them, along with a powerful find function for quick navigation. These features streamline programming and recall, making Punch-BD a practical choice for both studio production and live performance, where quick access to presets and real-time control are essential.
