Deres is a de-resonance plugin that identifies and reduces harsh harmonics using harmonic analysis, with static and dynamic modes and compensation tools to maintain clarity.

Deres

Purpose

Deres is designed to combat muddy frequencies and unruly overtones that often plague layered productions, such as stacked synths or bass lines. It uses harmonic analysis to uncover hidden resonances that might escape typical EQ approaches. The plugin targets not only the fundamental problem frequency but also its related harmonics, offering a more thorough cleanup than a standard surgical EQ.

The Listen button exaggerates resonances for easy isolation, and the Find knob sweeps the 1-8 kHz range to locate unusual peaks. This makes it a practical tool for cleaning up individual tracks or full mixes before final processing, ensuring that problematic resonances don’t ruin an otherwise solid production.

Key Capabilities

Deres offers static and dynamic processing modes. Static mode cuts resonances linearly, while dynamic mode only activates when needed, providing more musical and responsive results. The Octave knob reduces the relative harmonics of the main frequency, capturing all related peaks. The Q value adjusts the width of the frequency range being processed.

Compensation tools maintain tonal balance after resonance removal. The Tone button applies a convolution response to adjust the tonal balance of supporting instruments like pads and strings. The Compensate knob boosts neighboring frequencies to add brightness, and the Excite control infuses air and sparkle. Mid/Side mode and low-cut filtering expand its versatility for various tasks.

Workflow

A typical workflow begins with the Listen button to isolate annoying resonances, then uses the Find knob to locate problem frequencies. After identifying the peaks, you set the Q value to control the width, and adjust the Reduce parameter to apply the processing. The Octave knob ensures all harmonics are addressed. For dynamic response, you can switch to dynamic mode for processing that only steps in when needed.

After reduction, compensation features like Tone, Compensate, and Excite help restore clarity and brightness. The live spectrum display shows the signal in real time, and the AB comparison with copy/paste allows you to test different settings. Undo/redo buttons facilitate experimentation, and the resizable interface, built on vector graphics, ensures a responsive workflow.

Practical Applications

Deres is useful for cleaning up individual tracks, such as pads, strings, or synth stacks, where resonances accumulate. It also works well on full mixes to reduce harshness before mastering. The dynamic mode is suitable for material that changes over time, while static mode handles consistent issues. The factory presets range from subtle correction to broad transformations, providing starting points for various audio sources.

While powerful, it should be used judiciously to avoid over-processing, which might dull the sound. The compensations tools help prevent this by maintaining brightness and tonal balance. For producers and engineers, Deres offers a streamlined solution to achieve cleaner, more defined mixes.
