Blue Cat Audio FreqAnalyst Pro — Free Download
A professional real-time spectrum analyzer with precise measurement tools, spectrogram and 3D waterfall views, and unique pitch-to-CV/MIDI output for controlling other effects.

Purpose and Core Analysis
FreqAnalyst Pro is a real-time spectrum analyzer designed for detailed frequency inspection of mono, stereo, or mid/side signals. It offers full control over analysis precision and rate, with adjustable offset and slope correction to match the measured spectrum to your monitoring setup. Two thresholding systems and attack/release parameters shape the time response, while three display modes—instant, peak, and average—can be shown simultaneously for each channel.
The interface supports animated zoom and precise coordinate readouts, making it easy to measure exact spectral characteristics. Four memory slots store curves for A/B comparison between different tracks or effect chains. A spectrogram view tracks frequency evolution over time in both 2D and 3D waterfall modes, with full 3D navigation and solid or wireframe surface rendering. All channels are available in these views, preserving the same measurement accuracy.
Key Capabilities and Measurement Tools
The analyzer includes a smart interpolation algorithm for smooth display even with sparse data, and a note info display that converts frequencies to musical notes for quick reference. Absolute and relative threshold controls let you focus on relevant signal content, while opacity settings adjust the interface visibility. The plugin supports any sample rate and runs efficiently with no CPU load during silence, as processing shuts down automatically.
For precise work, the zoom and coordinate display allow exact measurement of peaks, notches, and harmonic structures. The memory slots are particularly useful for comparing the spectral footprint of a mix before and after processing. The spectrogram and 3D waterfall views provide a time-based perspective, helping you spot intermittent resonances or evolving tonal shifts that static curves might miss.
Workflow and Integration
FreqAnalyst Pro can output analysis data as automation envelopes or MIDI CC messages, including minimum and maximum frequencies and the spectral energy center, expressed in Hertz or as MIDI note values. Transformation parameters—offset, amount, and reverse—let you customize how these values are generated, with real-time graphs showing the effect of your adjustments. This enables pitch-based control of other effects, such as a filter on one instrument tracking the pitch of another.
The plugin supports MIDI Learn and full automation for its own controls, and it can be copied/pasted between instances. A smooth bypass avoids clicks when toggling the plugin, and an integrated preset manager with undo/redo streamlines your workflow. These features make it suitable for sidechain-style processing where spectral data drives creative modulation in a host.
Practical Applications and Limitations
Use FreqAnalyst Pro for tasks like identifying problematic resonances, checking stereo balance, or verifying the tonal consistency of a track across different sections. The memory slots are ideal for A/B testing different EQ settings or comparing multiple instrument takes. The pitch-output feature shines in live or studio setups where you want to sync filter sweeps, compression ratios, or delay times to the musical pitch of an input signal.
The plugin requires a host that supports VST, Audio Unit, or AAX formats (64-bit on Mac; 32/64-bit VST or AAX on Windows). It does not include multi-track analysis—that requires the separate FreqAnalyst Multi plugin. Note that it is a standalone analyzer, not an effects processor, so it cannot generate audio output beyond its analysis data.
