BasicDrumCo. Back To School 1.0 — Free Download
A rock drum sample library recorded at Sonic Debris Studios, offering gritty, processed tones, explosive room sounds, and versatile presets for quick, organic mixes.

Purpose
Back To School 1.0 is a sample library built for rock drummers and producers who need a polished, aggressive sound without extensive tweaking. The kit is assembled from favorite pieces of a large drum collection, emphasizing a small, tight setup that still delivers a wide range of tones. All drum sounds are pre-dialed for rock, so you can focus on playing and mixing rather than shaping the kit from scratch.
The samples were recorded through overdriven SSL G series preamps, compressors, and EQs, giving the drums built-in grit and power. This means the raw sound is already saturated and punchy, reducing the need for extra processing. The library is designed to be versatile, working for both classic and modern rock styles by adjusting the room microphone levels.
Key Capabilities
The main feature is the overdriven recording chain, which imparts a raw, aggressive character to every hit. The room microphones were tracked with SSL Listen Mic Compressors set to extreme settings, producing an explosive, squashed room sound that can be blended with the unprocessed room signal. This lets you dial in anything from a tight, dry rock mix to a huge, cavernous sound.
The samples include natural hit inconsistencies, which makes the kit feel organic and human when mixed into a track. Presets by Dan Korneff provide inspired starting points, helping you get a great sound quickly. The combination of pre-processed tones and flexible room blending makes this a powerful tool for fast, high-energy productions.
Workflow
In your DAW, load the library as a virtual instrument and choose a preset to get started. Each drum sound is already processed, so you can primarily focus on balancing the close and room microphones to shape the overall space. The room sound can be pushed hard for a bombastic effect or kept subtle for a more intimate rock feel.
The kit is ideal for creating drum tracks quickly, whether you are writing new songs or replacing sounds in an existing session. The organic inconsistencies mean you can record a performance without worrying about it sounding robotic. If you need more control, you can blend the room levels manually to match the mood of your mix, from tight and punchy to large and ambient.
Practical Applications
This library excels in rock, punk, and metal contexts where a gritty, processed drum sound is needed straight out of the box. Use it for demoing, songwriting, or full productions where you want a consistent, high-energy drum track without complex layering. The built-in saturation and compression make it a good choice for songs that require immediate impact.
Because the drum tones are fixed, it is less suitable for styles needing pristine, unprocessed drums or extensive sound design. The room blend gives some flexibility, but the core character remains aggressive. It is best used as a source of ready-to-mix rock drums that sit well in a busy mix, letting you save time and energy during tracking and editing.
