A Kontakt-based rhythm instrument that combines sequenced drum hits and editable loops with a powerful randomization engine, enabling fast creation of complex, evolving percussion patterns for music production.

Audiofier Pragmabeat

Core Architecture and Sound Content

Pragmabeat is a deep percussion instrument built around four sequencer lanes for multi-sampled drum hits and four additional lanes for audio loops, ranging from acoustic percussion to designed sound effects and heavy impacts. Hits are individual sounds like snares or cowbells that can be sequenced rhythmically, while loops are pre-recorded rhythms that remain editable and can also be sequenced, offering flexibility to blend one-shot hits with rhythmic textures.

The instrument’s primary appeal is its automatic sound and pattern generation. With a substantial collection of hits and loops, the built-in randomization engine can quickly combine kits and create multi-structured sequences, serving as a continuous source of rhythmic inspiration. Users can start with basic functionality or explore deeper controls, making it accessible for quick ideas and powerful enough for detailed sound design.

Performance and Key Switching

Performance is streamlined through key switches. Triggering C3 activates all four hit sequences and four loops simultaneously for immediate playback. Dedicated key switches generate drum rolls, snare fills, and tom/snare fills on the fly, while another switch triggers selectable crash cymbal samples. This allows for dynamic, real-time variation during a performance without stopping the sequencer.

For manual play, the key switches C1, D1, E1, and F1 trigger individual hits, functioning like a standard drum kit, while C2, D2, E2, and F2 trigger individual loops for solo auditioning. The C4 to B5 range selects scenes, which are saved combinations of sounds and sequences.

Scene System and Randomization

Scenes are the heart of Pragmabeat’s creative workflow. Each scene stores not only the selected hits and loops but also individual layer effects, allowing for a unique mix and processing per scene. This enables composers to create distinct rhythmic moods and transitions within a single instrument. The 24 built-in scenes progress from simple to complex patterns, providing a structured way to build intensity in a track.

The randomization engine also extends to scene chaining, where the instrument can automatically choose the order of scenes and change them at a specified rate, adding an element of unpredictable evolution to a performance. Users can generate new fills and rolls with a single key press, and the instrument remembers up to seven user-callable fill variations for instant recall.

Real-Time Control and Practical Use

A key real-time control is the modulation wheel, which adjusts the groove complexity and sparsity of the currently playing patterns. Moving the wheel can thin out the rhythm for a more minimal feel or increase density for a busier, more intricate groove.

In a DAW, Pragmabeat can serve as the rhythmic backbone for electronic, hip-hop, or cinematic scores. Composers can quickly generate pattern ideas by pressing keys, then refine them using the scene and fill features. The ability to blend sequenced hits with loops offers a hybrid approach, and the per-scene effects enable distinct sonic characters—from tight and dry to spacious and processed—making it a versatile tool for creating rhythmic beds or percussive accents in any production.
