The library includes the Derelict Kit 2, an extension with fresh metallic hits and effects, and Tension Hits 2, which focuses on loud, epic impacts from unconventional sources like chairs, tubes, stage doors, and even ensemble stomps. All recordings were made in a large nineteenth-century hall, giving them a natural sense of space and air. No loops or phrases are included; every patch is multi-sampled.

Key Capabilities and Controls

The graphical interface offers versatile sound-shaping tools. A pitch knob can drastically alter the size of the instrument, making it sound either massive or tiny. An EQ with low, mid, and high controls, a low-pass filter (also mapped to the mod wheel), a grit knob for distortion, a reverb knob, and an attack knob provide deep timbral flexibility.

Tension Hits 2 features similar adjustable controls: attack, release, low, mid, and high gain, plus a pitch knob. It also includes a toggle-able convolution reverb with thirteen selectable impulse responses, allowing users to place the dry samples in different spaces. Most patches feature four-way round robin cycling to add variety during rapid repeated hits.

Workflow and Integration

In a horror or tension scoring session, the Derelict Kit can be paired with sustained strings or drones, using the pitch knob to create unnerving, metallic textures. The grit control adds distortion for gritter, more aggressive moments. For trailer music, Tension Hits 2’s epic impacts serve as impactful hits or downbeats, layering well with orchestral percussion.

The round robin cycling ensures that fast, repetitive patterns do not sound static, making the library suitable for building rhythmic tension. The convolution reverb in Tension Hits 2 can be toggled off to use external reverb, or used with the included impulse responses to blend the hits into any mix.
