BFD Vintage Rock (Expansion for BFD Player) — Free Download
BFD Vintage Rock is a drum expansion for BFD Player, capturing the sound of a classic rock kit with Ludwig drums and Zildjian cymbals. It offers authentic vintage tones and a range of grooves for rock production.

Purpose
BFD Vintage Rock is a drum expansion designed exclusively for BFD Player, not BFD3. It recreates the powerful drum sounds of classic rock eras, drawing from the acclaimed Vintage Recording Techniques pack. The kit features a Ludwig Super Classic drumkit with two rack toms and two floor toms, providing rich, resonant tones that defined a generation of rock music.
The cymbal setup includes a full complement of Zildjian A-Custom and K series cymbals, along with a beefy Ludwig 400 snare and a Jazz Festival snare. This collection aims to deliver the thunderous beats and unmistakable rhythms of legendary rock bands, offering a complete package for producers seeking that quintessential 70s rock vibe.
Key Capabilities
The expansion includes a detailed kit with a 22×14 kick, 18×16 and 16×16 floor toms, 13×9 and 12×8 rack toms, and two snares. The snares can switch from wires on to wires off, offering flexibility for different sound textures. Cymbals range from a 22 ride to a 19 china, providing a broad palette for rock mixing.
It contains 388 grooves across genres like vintage rock, rock, metal, progressive rock, and funk. There are seven production presets plus one ‘Original Mix’ preset, giving users ready-to-use starting points. The variety in grooves supports different songwriting needs, from straightforward beats to more complex patterns.
Workflow
In BFD Player, users can load Vintage Rock and access the full kit with individual mic controls. The snares’ wire-on/off switching is easy to automate, allowing for dynamic changes within a track. The groove library lets you drag and drop patterns into your DAW, streamlining the drum programming process.
The presets offer quick setup for different mix contexts, from dry and punchy to ambient and roomy. For a specific sound, you can adjust each drum’s tuning, damping, and mic levels. This makes it suitable for both quick sketching and detailed production work, fitting into any rock-oriented workflow.
Practical Applications
Use Vintage Rock for full rock productions, especially those aiming for a classic yet powerful drum sound. The metal and progressive rock grooves expand its use beyond pure vintage, making it versatile for modern rock mixes. The funk grooves add a rhythmic edge for tracks needing a tighter, more syncopated feel.
It’s ideal for songwriters and producers who want an authentic drum kit without the hassle of recording live. The expansion works well for demos, final mixes, or as a layering source with other drum samples. For education, it can demonstrate classic rock drumming patterns and tones.
