KR-Fatter STR is a modular hybrid processor combining frequency-domain Spectral Transformation Resynthesis with time-domain fractal controls for spectral enhancement, fattening, and creative effects on vocals, instruments, and synth sounds.

Hybrid Processing Architecture
KR-Fatter STR unites two distinct DSP platforms within one processor. The frequency-domain platform, Spectral Transformation Resynthesis (STR), uses custom spectral transforms for synthesis and effect design, allowing detailed spectral content manipulation. Complementing this, time-domain elements include fractal-based variance controls, which introduce naturally perceived randomization.
This combination enables effects that surpass what either platform could achieve alone. For example, the processor can transform static audio into a vibrant, evolving sound by applying fractal algorithms that continuously vary the spectral output. This modular approach offers flexibility for designing complex, animated timbres.
Modular Effects and Signal Routing
The processor provides a suite of modular effects that can be arranged in serial or parallel configurations. These include a generic pitch-shifter, an animated pitch variation module, STR color spectral filtering, LFO modulation for vibrato, phase and amplitude variation units, a shelving equalizer, delay, and panning.
You can create up to four additional stereo copies of the input signal, resulting in a total of ten mono channels including the dry signal. Each copy can be processed individually and then blended on a master stereo output, enabling rich layered textures and spatial imaging.
Spectral Enhancement and Creative Shaping
KR-Fatter STR excels at enhancing spectral content across vocals, instruments, and synthesized recordings. The STR color module alone can generate thousands of spectral color variations, letting you sculpt the frequency balance creatively. The fractal-based randomization, applied to various parameters, adds organic movement and realism.
This makes it suitable for subtle fattening of a lead vocal or instrument, as well as bold special effects like spectral coloring, imaging, harmonizing, and pitch shifting. By combining serial and parallel paths, you can achieve complex signal chains that would normally require multiple separate processors.
Workflow and Practical Applications
In practice, you can route a dry signal through the modular chain, applying effects such as delay or pitch shifting to copies, then blend them back with the unprocessed signal for fattening. The panning and phase modules help create stereo width and imaging effects, while the shelving EQ ensures spectral balance across individual channels or the whole mix.
For sound designers, the animated pitch variation and LFO modulation add evolving vibrato and motion. The processor is ideal for studio production, live sound, or post-production where rich, dynamic spectral textures are needed, and its modular nature invites experimentation.
