Studio Captures

This room pack brings the legendary Teldex Studio Berlin to life, originally a ballroom from the 1890s and a recording hall since the 1950s. Its unique sonic signature, free of resonances and flutter echoes, is modeled from thousands of impulse responses. Vienna MIR Pro 3D presents this vast stage from two angles with three typical main microphone positions.

The pack also includes the recording studio in Weiler, Austria, designed by studio bau:ton. It offers two rooms: a live tracking room with acoustic birch paneling and a compact stone room built specifically for drums. Both are captured for use in mixing acoustic bands, re-amping, and rock, pop, or jazz productions.

ORF Funkhaus Halls

Three studios from Vienna’s ORF Funkhaus are represented, a building from the 1930s designed by Clemens Holzmeister. The Grand On-Air Studio is the largest hall, featuring a reverb time of 1.5 seconds and no right angles for acoustics. It is modeled from four main microphone positions—two on stage and two in the auditorium—making it suitable for full-size orchestras.

Studio 2 is a dry space optimized for big band recordings, with a reverb time of 0.5 seconds. It offers three microphone positions, including a listening perspective from the control room for depth. Studio 3 provides a medium reverb time of 0.8 seconds, serving as a versatile venue for various instrumentations and musical styles.

Key Capabilities

The pack’s core strength lies in its comprehensive capture methodology. Over ten thousand individual impulse responses were recorded using up to four Ambisonics microphone arrays, with sound directed from dozens of positions in sixty-degree steps, plus to the floor and ceiling. This yields a detailed three-dimensional representation of each space.

For users of Vienna MIR Pro 3D, these captures allow positioning of instruments or virtual ensembles within authentic acoustic environments. The multiple microphone positions per room enable different perspectives, from stage to audience, giving engineers flexibility in crafting spatial depth and realism in their mixes.

Workflow and Use

In practice, this room pack is designed for mixing and production, not for live recording. Engineers can place virtual instruments or sampled performances within these captured spaces, benefiting from the unique acoustics of each hall. For example, the Grand On-Air Studio suits orchestral mockups, while Studio 2’s dry sound works well for contemporary music requiring precise localization.

The Weiler live room’s paneling adds warmth to rock or pop sessions, and the stone room offers controlled drum re-amping. Since the pack contains only the room captures, it requires Vienna MIR Pro 3D as the host. It does not include instruments or additional software beyond the acoustic models themselves.
