VSL MIR 3D RoomPack 3 - Mystic Spaces — Free Download
MIR 3D RoomPack 3: Mystic Spaces from VSL recreates the acoustics of two historic Austrian churches—Maria Strassengel and Steinhofkirche—for Vienna MIR Pro 3D, using extensive multi-position impulse responses.

Purpose
This RoomPack supplies convolution-based reverb data for two sacred venues, captured for use with Vienna MIR Pro 3D. It enables positioning virtual instruments within a faithful 3D acoustic space, rather than applying a generic reverb effect.
Maria Strassengel is a Late Gothic pilgrimage church near Graz, known for a comparatively small nave that produces a dense but brief reverberation—around three seconds. Steinhofkirche in Vienna, an Art Nouveau landmark, offers a much longer, clear decay of roughly ten seconds, giving a dramatically different spatial character for composition.
Key Capabilities
The package includes multiple microphone perspectives for each building. Maria Strassengel offers four positions: near the altar, mid-nave, near the entrance under the organ gallery, and an elevated spot on the organ gallery itself. Steinhofkirche provides three principal positions: altar, mid-nave under the cupola, and by the main entrance.
For Steinhofkirche, additional HotSpots are included along the side aisles, at the rear entrance, and across the organ gallery balcony. This lets you place instruments not only at the main microphone points but also throughout the side and rear areas, enabling full surround setups within the virtual space.
Workflow
After loading the RoomPack in Vienna MIR Pro 3D, you assign individual instruments to virtual positions within the selected church. The software then applies the corresponding impulse responses to simulate how sound would travel from that spot to the microphones, including distance, direction, and early reflections.
For Steinhofkirche, you can take advantage of the HotSpots to create a realistic spread of players—for example, placing a soloist at the gilded pulpit to the left of the altar, with the rest of the ensemble distributed through the nave and aisles. This allows for expressive spatial staging that matches the building’s architecture.
Practical Applications
These spaces suit orchestral and choral productions where genuine church acoustics are desired. Maria Strassengel’s short, dense reverb works well for intimate sacral pieces or early music, keeping articulation clear. Steinhofkirche’s long, clear decay is ideal for large-scale works needing sustained ambience.
The surround capability in Steinhofkirche is particularly useful for film and game scoring, where you can place instruments around the listener. The HotSpots allow creative positioning of soloists or small groups, making it easy to simulate live performance from multiple perspectives without leaving the digital mixing environment.
