DrumTasteJazz is a jazz drum sample library for UVI Workstation, featuring a professionally miked Sonor kit with detailed articulation control, advanced hi-hat behavior, and flexible mixing options.

Authentic Jazz Drum Kit
DrumTasteJazz captures a Sonor Jazz Drum Kit with a warm, focused sound ideal for jazz, blues, and acoustic styles. The kit includes a bass drum, snare drums, toms, a tambourine, and cymbals from renowned makers like Zildjian and Istanbul. Each drum and cymbal was recorded with three microphone positions, giving you the flexibility to blend or isolate the close, overhead, and room mics.
The interface allows independent control of volume, pan, and mute for each microphone position, and you can even click on the visual kit elements to adjust their mics. This level of control lets you craft everything from a tight, dry studio sound to a more ambient, roomy feel, all without leaving the instrument window.
Expressive Articulation and Hi-Hat Control
The library offers deep articulation detail. The main snare has six hit positions, while the secondary snare has four, allowing for realistic rim shots, center hits, and edge plays. Round-robin cycling, with several samples per velocity, prevents machine-gun effects when repeating notes. Velocity layers are extensive, ensuring smooth dynamic transitions from soft brushwork to powerful accents.
The hi-hat is modeled with five levels of openness, and its sound responds to a MIDI controller (default on C#2) in real time, just like a real hi-hat pedal. This lets you achieve everything from tightly closed chick sounds to fully open crashes. The controller value determines which articulation is triggered, and there’s also an automatic closing sound for realistic footwork.
Flexible Mapping and Workflow
DrumTasteJazz is designed with flexible mapping and MIDI learning. You can remap any drum element to any key instantly, either by using the MIDI Learn function or by simply pressing a key and assigning a sample. This is supported by a custom mapping system that allows every element to be assigned to any key on your controller.
For those who prefer standard setups, the library includes mapping presets for GM, V-Drums, IMAP, and NSKIT formats, so it can drop into existing projects and drum patterns seamlessly. The player also features sample cycling options—random or sequential—so you can control how the round-robin samples are used, giving you creative freedom over repeating patterns.
Mixing and Performance Features
The included UVI Workstation 3 player (version 3.1.6 or later required) offers a streamlined mixing environment. You can apply a convolution reverb to the entire kit and adjust the amount to taste, from a subtle room ambience to a larger hall sound. The interface also includes a sensitivity control that sets the minimum velocity threshold, helping you fine-tune dynamics to your playing style.
Stereo and multi-output versions are provided, allowing you to route different kit pieces to separate tracks in your DAW for detailed mixing. The library also comes with demo MIDI files and a collection of MIDI loops recorded live on a V-Drums kit, giving you instant inspiration and a starting point for your own performances.
