Acousticsamples DrumTasteBrush — Free Download
A detailed brush drum kit for UVI Workstation, recorded from acoustic drums with multiple mic positions, round robins, velocity layers, and expressive brush articulations. It offers deep mapping and mixing controls.

Purpose and Core Sound
DrumTasteBrush is a virtual brush drum kit built from recordings of a Yamaha Stage Custom kit, a Pearl piccolo snare, and various cymbals. It captures the subtle, textured attack of brushes with multiple hits per drum, including circle strokes, soft sweeps, and rimshots. Each drum was sampled at three microphone positions, allowing you to blend close, overhead, and room sounds.
The included UVI Workstation player lets you load the instrument without needing a separate sampler. The library provides a realistic foundation for jazz, blues, folk, and other genres where brushes are essential, offering a wide dynamic range from whisper-quiet taps to pronounced accents.
Key Capabilities
The kit features over twenty velocity layers per drum with four round robins, ensuring smooth and natural dynamic response. The snare offers six distinct hit types, including center, rimshot, and soft variants, plus dedicated brush actions. The hihat has five openness levels triggered by a controller, with automatic closing sounds and foot pedal samples.
You can assign any drum or articulation to any key using the custom mapping feature. Preset mappings for GM, V-Drums, and other standards are also included. The interface provides separate controls for each microphone position, enabling you to mix or disable them individually.
Workflow and Playability
The instrument is designed for both keyboard and electronic drum use. A scripting system simplifies brush performance, allowing you to switch between articulations smoothly. Separate right-hand and left-hand mappings facilitate two-handed playing patterns, making it easier to emulate real brush techniques.
Both stereo and multi-output versions are included, letting you route individual drums to separate tracks in your DAW for advanced mixing. The included demo MIDI files can serve as starting points for your own patterns or to explore the instrument’s range.
Practical Applications
DrumTasteBrush excels in jazz, swing, and acoustic pop productions where brush drums are central. It also suits singer-songwriter tracks, lo-fi beats, and film scores needing intimate percussion. The ability to blend mic positions gives you control from dry to ambient textures.
For e-drum performers, the velocity layers and round robins provide a responsive feel, while keyboard players benefit from the playable mappings and scripted articulations. The included presets help you quickly integrate it into GM-based setups or drum machines.
