Ancient Greek Winds captures the sound of the classical Hellenistic period with nine handcrafted instruments, from bass to alto aulos flutes, conch shell horns, brass salpinx, pan flute, and plagiaulos. These were built using period-accurate methods and materials like wood, reeds, conch, and bronze, based on historical research by the Athens group LyrΑvlos.
Each instrument is fully playable with sustains, staccatos, true legato, and dynamic expressions. The library includes round-robin variations to add realism. The melodic focus makes it a natural companion to Ancient Greek Strings and Percussion, allowing you to build complete period-inspired arrangements.
Performance and Articulation Controls
The Kontakt interface offers extensive performance control. You can shape swells, attack, release, vibrato, filter, and pitch, and switch between articulations. True legato response can be adjusted, and simulated portamento adds expressive slides. A key and scale lock system helps constrain notes to common scales for easier composition and live play.
An arpeggiator provides velocity control and settings for direction, timing, swing, randomization, and duration. The adaptable LFO system includes selectable shapes, modulation targets, speed, intensity, tempo sync, and fade-in. Filters with assignable modulation targets, such as velocity, mod wheel, and expression, allow for dynamic tonal shaping.
Sound Design and Effects Rack
The modular FX rack features 18 DSP effect modules, including phaser, flanger, delay, distortion, amp and cab simulators, compressors, EQ, and rotator. You can assign them in any order across ten slots. The convolution reverb includes 99 rooms, halls, chambers, and outdoor environments, plus 40 custom effect impulses for transformative sound design.
Twenty custom sound-designed ambience patches and FX presets are included, created from the raw acoustic recordings. These provide ready-made textures and creative starting points. The rack also includes factory presets to get you started, covering a wide range of tonal possibilities.
