Core Purpose
Cryostasis is a spectral inertia effect designed to progressively smear audio until it becomes infinitely frozen in time. The continuously variable freeze knob allows smooth transitions between unfrozen and fully frozen states, enabling partial freezes that create time-smearing effects. An auto switch can time the freeze in milliseconds or musical measures via double-click.
The effect uses spectral processing to capture and sustain audio, transforming ordinary sounds into evolving textures. The Freeze Designer controls, such as Size, change the spectral window length, shifting the character from robotic and unnatural at lower values to smooth and atmospheric at higher values. This makes it useful for both subtle coloration and extreme transformation.
