Purpose and Core Synthesis

Sektor is a polyphonic wavetable synth designed to deliver a massive, high-quality sound while using low system resources. At its heart are two wavetable oscillators, each with 16 voices per oscillator, which can be shaped using the OSC+ feature. This allows you to adjust parameters like waveform, phase, pitch, stereo spread, level, and detune for each individual unison voice, enabling the creation of rich, complex unison sounds.

Beyond its wavetable engine, Sektor includes a built-in multisample engine that can play back Heat Up 3 instruments, blending realistic rompler sounds with its synthesis capabilities. The factory library provides over 200 wavetables and a substantial selection of multisampled instruments and single samples, giving you a broad sonic palette right out of the box.

Key Capabilities and Interface

Sektor’s interface is designed for ease of use, with drag-and-drop modulation routing that minimizes the need for a traditional modulation matrix. You can route feature-rich envelopes, ADSRs, and LFOs to any parameter by dragging from the source or using the right-click menu on knobs. The Expression page extends control to velocity, aftertouch, and other expressive inputs, including support for the MPE MIDI standard.

Visual feedback is permanent, so you can always see what’s happening with a preset. Tooltips explain each control when you hover over it, making it accessible even for those new to synthesis. The interface is also deeply customizable—you can change colors, backgrounds, and skins, and even create your own.

Workflow and Customization

Sektor enhances your workflow with two effect racks, each containing high-quality effects like reverb, delay, distortion, chorus, phaser, trance gate, compressor, stereo shaper, and a 4-band equalizer. The effect order can be rearranged via drag-and-drop, allowing you to shape your signal chain quickly. A built-in sequencer lets you create custom arpeggios and sequences without external tools.

For sound designers, the built-in wavetable editor allows you to edit existing wavetables or create your own from scratch. You can also add your own samples, create custom presets, and build expansion packs. This level of customization ensures that Sektor can evolve with your needs, and the product is expandable through new expansion libraries from Initial Audio and third-party developers.

Practical Applications

With over 750 unique factory presets, Sektor is suitable for a broad range of genres, including EDM, Hip-Hop, Trap, R&B, Dubstep, and Drum & Bass. The presets cover everything from evolving pads and leads to basses and plucks, so you can quickly find a starting point for any track. The wavetable editor is ideal for creating custom sounds for soundtracks or sound design projects.

The combination of wavetable synthesis and multisample playback makes Sektor a versatile tool for music producers looking to blend analog-style synthesis with realistic instrument sounds. The low CPU usage and standalone app support make it practical for live performance or studio use, and the MPE support opens up expressive playing with compatible controllers.
