The Leslie Collection recreates the sound of legendary rotary speaker cabinets through two plugins for AmpliTube and T-RackS, developed with Hammond USA.

Leslie Collection

Authentic Rotary Speaker Recreation

The Leslie Collection is an official collaboration with Hammond USA and Suzuki Music Corp. of Japan, aiming to digitally capture the authentic sound of Leslie amps and cabinets. It includes AmpliTube Leslie for guitar-oriented use and T-RackS Leslie for broader mixing and sound design applications.

Both plugins use proprietary technologies: Volumetric Response Modeling for cabinets, which captures real audio behavior by miking physical units in a high-quality room, and Dynamic Interaction Modeling for the amps, which analyzes every electronic component’s behavior and interactions. This approach provides complex time-variant effects like Doppler, delay, frequency, phase, and reverberation.

Key Capabilities

AmpliTube Leslie features circuit-modeled amplifiers, critical for recreating the signature tone, especially when overdriving for rock and blues. The cabinets are recorded in stereo with four mics, allowing flexible mixing to suit production needs. All controls are organized into Setup, Channels, and EQ pages, with an always-visible speed controller for quick access.

T-RackS Leslie is designed for use on any source, not just organs and keyboards. It works well on guitars, synths, vocals, drums, and percussion, and can be used as a parallel processor within a T-RackS channel strip. The combination of Dynamic Interaction Modeling and Volumetric Response Modeling aims to make the digital models indistinguishable from the originals when mic’d the same way.

Workflow and Usability

With AmpliTube Leslie, guitarists can integrate rotary speaker tones directly into their AmpliTube signal chain. The four stereo mics can be mixed to adjust the spatial character, from close and direct to roomy and ambient. The speed controller allows real-time switching between slow and fast rotor speeds, essential for classic Leslie effects.

T-RackS Leslie fits into mixing workflows as an insert or parallel effect. Its application as a creative tool on any track expands sound design possibilities. The stereo recording of horns and drums supports realistic panning and movement, and the modeled amps allow for overdrive characteristics that blend with the rotary effect.

Practical Applications

The collection is suited for genres that rely on rotary speaker tones, such as rock, blues, and classic organ-driven music. Guitarists can use AmpliTube Leslie to add movement and warmth to solos or rhythm parts. Keyboardists can recreate organ sounds with authentic rotating speaker character.

In a mixing context, T-RackS Leslie can add unusual textures to synths, vocals, or drums, creating psychedelic or vintage flavors. The parallel processing option enables subtle widening or extreme effects without affecting the dry signal. Sound designers can explore the slow-fast speed transitions for evolving textures.
