Hertz Instruments Hertz Drums Christian Donaldson Signature Pack — Free Download

Purpose and Scope

This expansion pack brings Christian Donaldson’s signature drum sounds to Hertz Drums, the required host instrument. It delivers mix-ready samples that cut through dense productions, as heard on albums by Suffocation, Cryptopsy, and Shadow of Intent. The pack focuses on heavy and brutal drum tones, emphasizing punch, clarity, and dynamic range for modern metal production.

Designed for producers working in extreme metal genres, the pack covers a full drum kit with enhanced articulations. It includes twelve hi-hat articulations and four tom articulations, featuring shallow right and left hand variations. Crashes and splashes each offer edge and tip articulations, allowing nuanced performance for dynamic and expressive drum programming.

Key Capabilities

The pack is fully compatible with advanced e-drum mapping, making it ideal for drummers and producers using electronic kits. This ensures seamless integration with a wide range of hardware triggers, allowing for natural performance capture without extensive manual mapping. The articulations are meticulously crafted to respond to velocity and playing style.

Each drum sound is captured at Christian Donaldson’s studio, providing a consistent and professional sonic character. The samples are mix-ready, meaning they require minimal processing to fit into a dense mix. The combination of extensive articulations and superior sample quality gives producers the tools to create realistic and powerful drum tracks.

Workflow Integration

To use this pack, you must have Hertz Drums installed, as it functions solely as an expansion. After installation, the kit appears within the Hertz Drums interface, ready for use in your projects. The advanced e-drum mapping ensures that triggering from electronic kits is straightforward, retaining the feel of an acoustic performance.

For programming, the multi-articulation design allows for detailed MIDI sequencing, whether drawing notes or using a MIDI controller. The hi-hat articulations provide realistic foot and stick variations, while the tom and cymbal articulations add subtle performance nuances. This workflow suits both studio production and live-sounding mockups, reducing time spent on tweaking samples.

Practical Applications

This pack excels in producing brutal, heavy drum tracks for death metal, deathcore, and technical metal. Its mix-ready nature means it’s directly usable in professional recordings, as demonstrated in Donaldson’s work with Suffocation and Shadow of Intent. Producers can dial in aggressive tones that stand out without excessive EQ or compression.

Beyond extreme metal, the pack’s precision and clarity could serve progressive or groove metal contexts where drum articulation is critical. The edge and tip cymbal articulations allow for ride-like patterns, while the shallow tom notes enable ghost-note effects. This versatility makes it a strong choice for any producer seeking high-detail, aggressive drums.
