Purpose and Core Concept

Spacelab Ignition & Gravitas MDS Bundle is a spatial audio solution that merges reverb, panning, and 3D positioning into a single plugin. It treats audio sources as objects in a virtual room, allowing you to place them around the listener in three-dimensional space. This approach eliminates the need for complex routing that traditional surround or Atmos setups often require, making immersive audio accessible within any DAW.

The core idea is that reverb and spatial positioning are naturally linked. As an object moves, the early reflections and reverb tail adapt in real time to its changing location. This creates a coherent, natural-sounding acoustic scene. The bundle is designed for music production, film scoring, broadcast, game audio, and VR/AR, supporting a wide range of output formats from mono to full 3D speaker arrays, including binaural for headphones.

Key Capabilities

The reverb engine, developed in collaboration with Fraunhofer IIS, offers ultra-realistic room simulation from small spaces to large venues. You can adjust reverb time across nine frequency bands independently, and each object has its own early reflection pattern that changes as it moves. The built-in 3D panner lets you position objects and record movement as automation, with a 3D view for visual feedback. The listener position within the room is also adjustable.

The bundle supports up to 24 inputs and outputs, and arbitrary speaker layouts with up to 256 speakers. The full-sphere binauralizer enables monitoring and final output for headphones. It includes two modes: Classic for send/return effects and Object for object-based mixing. The package also includes Spacelab Beam, a plugin that bypasses DAW routing limitations by sending audio from any track into Spacelab, and an optional MPEG-H exporter for publishing in formats like Sony 360RA.

Workflow and Integration

The workflow is centered on object-based mixing. You place each source in the virtual room, adjust its dry/wet mix individually, and automate movement if desired. Spacelab provides dynamic automation features that simplify handling complex parameter changes, preventing automation clutter. The speaker layout editor lets you design custom layouts, and the 3D view helps you visualize the arrangement.

Practical Applications

This bundle is ideal for music producers wanting to add depth and movement to mixes, sound designers working on immersive installations, and post-production professionals mixing for film or games in Atmos or MPEG-H. It simplifies creating binaural mixes for headphone listeners. The ability to produce once and deliver in multiple formats saves time in multi-platform releases.
