ILIO Oblivion's Edge - Dystopian and Sci-Fi Soundscapes — Free Download
Oblivion’s Edge is a patch library for Spectrasonics Omnisphere 2, offering 101 otherworldly, dystopian soundscapes for sci-fi scoring and electronic music production.

Purpose and Inspiration
Oblivion’s Edge is a sound designer’s toolkit for crafting dystopian and sci-fi atmospheres. It draws inspiration from TV shows like Altered Carbon and Westworld, plus films such as Interstellar and Arrival. The patches evoke a seductive yet ominous mood, ideal for soundtrack work or adding a futuristic edge to electronic genres.
The library is a collaboration between ILIO and Libra Rising Music. Its creator, Jesse Scott, brings 25 years of production experience to a collection he describes as his favorite. The goal is to transport listeners to alternative sonic planes, using sounds that feel both alien and cinematic.
Key Capabilities
The library contains 101 patches, including 22 cinematic drones, 43 evolving textures and sound beds, 12 space effects, 12 hits and stabs, four futuristic synths, four ethereal pads, and four vocal-based sounds. Each patch is optimized for modulation wheel control, allowing real-time performance adjustments on stage or in the studio.
Built on over 1.4 GB of new source material, the sounds are derived from NASA recordings, whale and dolphin songs, Mariana Trench captures, Tibetan singing bowls, and processed electric guitars. Samples were recorded at high resolutions and run through analog gear, ensuring a rich, detailed sound.
Workflow Integration
Oblivion’s Edge is designed for use with Omnisphere 2.6 or higher, loading quickly and easily into your existing setup. Its multi-layer patches take advantage of Omnisphere’s advanced architecture, offering complex, evolving soundscapes that change over time. The modulation wheel adds expressive control without complex programming.
For composers, the library simplifies building tension or otherworldly backdrops. Sound designers can layer drones and textures to create unique audio beds. Live performers benefit from the real-time control, making it a flexible tool across studio and stage environments.
Practical Applications
Use these patches to score sci-fi films, TV dramas, or video games, where mood and atmosphere are crucial. The drones and textures suit underscore sections, while hits and stabs provide impactful transitions. Ethereal pads and vocal sounds add human-like warmth against the harsh electronics.
In electronic music, the library adds a cinematic layer to tracks, from ambient intros to full soundscapes. It works for trailer music, podcast intros, or even art installations. The included effects and stabs can punctuate rhythmic beats without extra synthesis, making it a versatile addition to any producer’s palette.
