Strymon Cloudburst Plugin — Free Download
Cloudburst is an ambient reverb plugin featuring an Ensemble engine that synthesizes upper harmonics across 48 frequency bands, plus Infinite and Freeze hold modes for evolving pads and soundscapes.

Ensemble Harmonic Engine
Cloudburst’s Ensemble effect continuously analyzes the source audio across 48 frequency bands and generates corresponding upper harmonic partials for each band. This produces a synthesized string-like expansion of the reverb signal, adding rich, evolving textures to any input. The result is a unique layering effect that goes beyond conventional reverb tails.
You can apply Ensemble subtly to add harmonics and movement to ambient soundscapes, or push it further to create lush, string-like voices from acoustic instruments and vocals. The effect is designed to remain musical across its range, making it a flexible tool for sound design and composition.
Hold Modes and Modulation
The Hold button offers two sustain options: Infinite sustains the reverb indefinitely while new notes add to the signal, and Freeze also sustains indefinitely but lets you play new, unprocessed notes on top without adding to the reverb. This allows you to build layered pads or maintain a frozen bed while playing fresh material.
The Mod control shapes modulation depth up to the halfway point, then shifts to modulation speed beyond that, reaching warbly vintage sci-fi pitch effects at the extreme. This modulation can be combined with Ensemble for deeper movement and interest in the reverb tail, especially at higher decay settings.
Decay Control and Sound Design
Turning the Decay control automatically adjusts numerous internal parameters, shaping the reverb space from natural small rooms to vast, otherworldly atmospheres. Even tiny adjustments yield noticeable changes in character, allowing precise tailoring of the space without menu diving.
This streamlined control set makes sound design intuitive: you can dial in a subtle room for a vocal or push decay high for long, hypnotic tails. The Ensembled harmonics interact with decay length, so longer settings reveal more of the synthesized texture, while shorter settings keep the effect tight.
Practical Workflows
For ambient pads, set Hold to Infinite and feed sustained chords or single notes, letting the reverb accumulate into a evolving bed. For layered performances, switch to Freeze and play over the sustained signal—ideal for adding melody or rhythm without disturbing the background texture.
On acoustic instruments or vocals, a subtle Ensemble setting adds harmonic richness and movement, while higher settings transform the signal into synthetic string-like layers. The plugin is designed for musical results at any setting, making it usable for straightforward reverb duties or experimental soundscapes.
