Audio effects and utilities

Leapwing CenterOne 3 is a spatial audio plugin that identifies and shapes the phantom center of stereo signals independently from side information, using proprietary Center Prominence technology. It offers EQ, multiband control, and sidechain dynamics for precise stereo image manipulation.

Phantom Center Control

CenterOne 3 provides direct control over the phantom center of a stereo signal without altering its panorama, phase, or spectral balance. Unlike conventional Mid-Side processing, its Center Prominence technology identifies the actual center content, allowing you to change its level while leaving unique left and right information untouched. This enables you to bring a vocal forward, create space in a dense mix, or control low-frequency width without affecting the stereo image’s integrity.

The plugin extracts left, center, and right components, giving you independent gain and mute controls for each within every frequency band. The extraction-width control defines how tightly the phantom center is isolated, allowing you to target only the most prominent center elements. This makes it suitable for individual tracks, buses, stems, and full mixes, from subtle mastering adjustments to creative spatial processing.

Shape Center and Sides with EQ

Dedicated equalization lets you shape the center and side components of your stereo signal independently. Two parametric EQ bands can be assigned to either the LR (sides) or Center processing zone. This allows you to add presence to the center without brightening the entire mix, or clean up low frequencies in the sides. You can shape different areas of the stereo image separately, giving you precise tonal control over the spatial elements.

For example, you might cut muddiness in the side low end while boosting clarity in the center presence range. The independent assignment capability means you can apply different EQ curves to the center and side components, tailoring the frequency balance of each spatial zone.

Multiband and Dynamic Processing

CenterOne 3 includes multiband control of Center Prominence, allowing you to adjust the center level independently across different frequency ranges. You can keep the low end solid and focused while opening up the upper frequencies, or reduce center congestion only where needed. This frequency-dependent approach enables detailed changes to the stereo image, such as narrowing the bass while widening the treble without affecting phase relationships.

The dynamic sidechain feature makes the spatial processing react to another signal. You can use an internal or external sidechain source with selectable frequency and spatial targets. With controls for threshold, ratio, attack, release, and range, you can create space around a lead vocal when it enters, let one instrument dynamically influence the center balance of another, or produce subtle movement without manual automation.

Workflow and Practical Applications

CenterOne 3 includes A/B comparison, copy, undo, and redo for fast decision-making, plus preset management and full parameter automation. In compatible hosts, it offers a stereo main output with extracted L, C, and R auxiliary outputs, allowing you to route these components separately for further processing. This makes it a versatile tool for mixing engineers, mastering engineers, and sound designers.

Practical applications include bringing a vocal forward in a dense mix, creating space around centered elements without widening the stereo image, controlling low-frequency width in a master, and reshaping the stereo image of a full track. It can be used on individual instruments, buses, stems, or complete mixes.
