KIT Plugins BB N73 — Free Download
A model of a classic British console channel, drawing from twelve selected vintage units. It combines three-band EQ, a mic preamp, and an output buss stage for harmonic color.

Purpose and Character
The BB N73 is a plugin recreation of a classic recording channel, modeled after twelve vintage units chosen from a notable studio collection. The goal was to capture the sound of real hardware in working conditions, including age, wiring, and modifications. KIT describes this as building a «real world» model, focusing on practical audio behavior rather than a perfect textbook circuit.
It uses proprietary Full Range Modeling Technology to capture frequencies across the full audible spectrum, which contributes to its analog depth and harmonic texture. The plugin includes a discrete-style preamp stage that can add subtle harmonic distortion, along with a three-band equalizer for tonal shaping. The final buss stage adds saturation and compression based on the input level, ranging from gentle transient smoothing to heavy squash.
EQ and Gain Controls
The equalizer offers three bands with a classic layout that mirrors familiar hardware. The controls include a low-frequency shelf, a mid-band with selectable frequencies, and a high-frequency shelf, each with step gain settings. You can use these bands to carve presence, body, or air in individual tracks or mix elements.
The mic preamp gain has a notched, stepped control that mimics the original unit. An auto-gain feature adjusts the output level to compensate for preamp changes, keeping a consistent listening level while you work. For finer adjustments, a continuous gain option removes the notched movement, giving you smooth control over the input drive and the saturation it produces.
Buss Stage and Tone Shaping
The output buss is modeled after a larger console’s master channel, adding its own harmonic content and compression. The amount of coloration depends entirely on how hard you drive the input. Lower drive levels produce subtle transient softening, while higher settings can heavily compress and thicken the sound, adding weight and punch.
This stage can serve as a mix buss tool or be used on individual tracks to add character. Since the effect is level-dependent, you can adjust the preamp or trim to dial in the desired intensity. The plugin also includes an analog hum control that introduces a low-frequency noise component, letting you add a vintage feel when needed.
Workflow and Practical Use
The interface is designed for quick adjustments, with a resizable 3D graphical layout. You can drag the corner to change plugin size, or choose preset sizes from an options menu. Tooltips show precise gain values for each EQ band and a percentage for the mic pre, aiding accuracy.
Practical applications include shaping vocals, drums, guitars, or full mixes. The EQ is flexible for tone carving, while the preamp and buss stages add character. The oversampling control lets you select low, medium, or high settings to balance definition and CPU load. Fader color can be changed, and custom pro presets are included as a starting point.
Key features
- Three-band EQ with classic controls
- Mic preamp with stepped or continuous gain
- Auto-gain to maintain output level
- Output buss stage with level-dependent compression
- Analog hum level control
- Resizable 3D interface with tooltips
- Oversampling with low, medium, or high settings
Best for
Best suited for mixing and tracking sessions where a classic British console tone is desired. It works well on individual instruments like vocals, drums, and guitars, as well as on a mix buss to add cohesion, weight, and harmonic color.
